YOU ARE INVITED TO A “CONVERSATION” BETWEEN A POET AND A COMMUNITY OF ARTISTS.

In This One-of-a-Kind Show, You Experience and Participate, Becoming Part of the Artistic Expression!

Join P3, a unique, immersive and interactive experience at the intersection of varied forms of artistic expression. P3: The Poetry and Painting Project is a community conversation between one poet, Lora-Ellen McKinney, and 15 “painters” responding to poems assigned to them. Painters are any type of artist – vocalists, singer-songwriters, actors, rappers, sculptors, mixed media artists, quilters, and storytellers. Painters range in age from 13 to mid-80’s, and are multi-racial, multi-national, and multigendered. The artists are undiscovered, newly discovered, or have been famous for varied amounts of time. They are urban, suburban and rural. They are from relatively peaceful places in the United States, from developing countries and from war-torn Ukraine.

Hosted at the Liberty Bank Building, the exhibit’s building is also a work of art. Set on the historic site of the first and only Black bank in the Pacific Northwest, the bank was co-founded by the poet’s father. Local and virtual communities are invited to join the poet as she engages with artists who responded to her poetry on topics ranging from spawning salmon to steamy kisses, from historical enslavement to Black men murdered by police, and to encouragements to “place boxes of grief inside containers of joy”. This conversation between local, national, and international artists also provides opportunities for attendees to participate in interactive experiences. By walking in the door of this exhibit, you can view, discuss and become art.
